Senegalese minister, singer and
songwriter Youssou NDour performed two sold out shows on September 12
and 13, 2014, at BAM Howard Gilman Opera House in Brooklyn as part of
the 2014 Next Wave Festival. A multicultural audience made of
American and nostalgic Senegalese fans who came from all corners of the
country and even from Canada sang and danced to the rhythm of popular
Senegalese music, MBalakh, for almost two hours. At the end of Saturday’s concert,
several of them waited patiently at BAM stage door with the hope to
shake hands and take a picture with the “King of MBalakh” who never
showed up. Youssou NDour arrived in the US last
week from a month and a half long European tour and is expected to
perform in Atlanta on the 17th, in Dallas on the 19th, in Chicago on the
20th and finally in Columbus on the 21st.
